The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is preparing a management plan for Yellow Point Park to guide the park’s long-term care, stewardship, use, and improvement.
Yellow Point Park is located on provincial Crown land and is managed by the CVRD as a community park in Electoral Area H under a lease with the Province of British Columbia. The management plan will support renewal of the lease and establish long-term direction for protecting the park’s natural environment, managing recreation, improving access and infrastructure, and supporting stewardship.
During Phase 1 engagement, community members shared what they value about Yellow Point Park, current concerns, and priorities for its future management. The input from phase 1 has been summarized in the Yellow Point Park Engagement Summary. This input, together with First Nations engagement, site assessment, technical information, and operational considerations, will inform the preparation of the Draft Management Plan.
The Yellow Point Park Draft Management Plan establishes a long-term vision, management goals, and recommended actions to protect and restore the park’s natural environment, improve and sustain its trail network, provide site-appropriate access and infrastructure, and strengthen relationships and stewardship.
Phase 2 engagement is expected to take place in the fall. This phase will provide an opportunity for the community to review and provide feedback on the draft management plan direction, confirm whether it reflects what was heard during Phase 1, and help identify priorities for implementation.
