EA Housing Needs Reports 2024

Introduction

In late 2023, the Province of British Columbia introduced sweeping changes to the Local Government Act to help address the housing crisis and begin to deliver more housing options throughout BC.

Bill 44 Housing Statutes (Residential Development) Amendment Act requires all local governments to update their housing needs reports using a standardized methodology over a 20-year time horizon to better understand and address housing needs throughout British Columbia.

The Housing Needs Report updates the CVRD’s last report completed in 2021 to help the CVRD understand what has changed, how to respond to and implement recent Provincial housing legislation, and what types of housing units are most needed in our region's communities now and in the future.
